Measure width and length, note the location, and treat structural signs as urgent.
Under 0.02 in is cosmetic and can be sealed. From 0.02 to 0.1 in, epoxy or polyurethane injection is typical. Above 0.1 in, or any horizontal or offset crack, needs an engineer.
Sealing a hairline crack runs $5 to $15 per linear foot, injection $25 to $45 per foot, and structural repair far more. A 10 ft moderate crack typically costs $250 to $450.
Horizontal cracks in a foundation wall, stair-step cracks in brick, cracks wider than 1/8 in, and walls that are bowing or walls with sticking doors all suggest movement.
Caulk hides the crack but does not bond the concrete or stop water. Polyurethane injection is the correct fix for active leaks and moving cracks.
Injection stops water through the crack itself. If water is coming from outside drainage, the fix is grading, gutters and waterproofing, not injection alone.
Epoxy injection can last the life of the wall. Polyurethane injection flexes and may need redoing if the wall keeps moving.
Using the calculator defaults, hairline, 10 ft gives Width: 0.25 and Typical repair: $80, with a typical range $50 to $150. Change the waste allowance, material or thickness to match your site.
Using the calculator defaults, hairline slab, 40 ft gives Width: 0.38 and Typical repair: $320, with a typical range $200 to $600. Change the waste allowance, material or thickness to match your site.
