How reviews of pros will work on LocalServiceHQ, written to meet the FTC rule on fake reviews.

Last updated Oct 29, 2026 · LocalServiceHQ editorial team

Who can review

Reviews on LocalServiceHQ will come only from homeowners whose job started with a request sent through our site. That ties every review to a real job. We are setting this up together with the pro directory; until it opens, no on-site reviews are shown.

What we never do

  • We never write, buy or invent reviews.
  • We never reward a review, and never make a reward depend on the review being positive.
  • We never hide negative reviews to make the rest look better.
  • A business cannot pay to remove or reorder its reviews.

What gets published

Every review that meets these rules is published, positive or negative. We only withhold content that is unlawful or exposes someone’s private information, and the profile will say when that happens.

Ratings from other sites

If we show a rating from another site, such as Google, it will be labeled with its source. We never present ratings from other sites as our own reviews.

Reviews, verification and disputes

Who can leave a review

Reviews on LocalServiceHQ will come only from homeowners whose job started with a request sent through this site. Each review is tied to a request record, so a review cannot be bought or posted by a business. Until that system is live, we do not show star ratings at all, which is why you will not find a rating on a listing today.

What the FTC rule requires

The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465) bans fake or AI-generated reviews, buying positive reviews, suppressing negative ones and review gating. We follow it. That means no paid reviews, no invented testimonials, no "leave us five stars first" flow, and no deleting a review because it is negative.

How we verify a review

CheckHow
Job existsThe request record matches the reviewer's email or phone
Company matchesThe review names the company that received the request
One review per jobDuplicate reviews for the same request are merged or removed
Content rulesNo personal data, threats or competitor attacks

Disputes and removal

A business can dispute a review by emailing admin@localservicehq.com with the review and the evidence. We check the request record and the evidence, then keep, edit or remove the review. We do not remove a review only because a business dislikes it. Reviews that break the content rules are removed regardless of who wrote them.

What we do not do

  • No paid review removal
  • No editing a star rating to help a paying customer
  • No review incentives
  • No publishing a review without a matching request

Questions

Can businesses buy reviews on LocalServiceHQ?

No. Reviews can only come from homeowners whose job started with a request sent through the site, so a business cannot buy or post a review. Paid review removal and review incentives are not offered.

Why are there no star ratings on listings yet?

Ratings are only shown when a review is tied to a verified request record. Until that system is live, the site does not show star ratings at all rather than show unverified ones.

How do I dispute a review about my business?

Email admin@localservicehq.com with the review and your evidence. The request record and the evidence are checked, and the review is kept, edited or removed under the review policy, not because a business dislikes it.
