Quote red flags

!
Comparing totals, not scopeA cheaper quote may skip removal, base prep or the permit. Line the quotes up item by item.
!
Large cash depositPaying most of the job up front leaves you with little leverage if work stalls.
!
No written warrantyAsk how long workmanship is covered and what is excluded, in writing.
!
Pressure to sign today"Today only" discounts are a sales tactic. A fair price will still be fair next week.
!
No insurance certificateIf a worker is hurt or your property is damaged, an uninsured contractor leaves you exposed.
!
Vague materials"Concrete driveway" is not a spec. Look for thickness, PSI, reinforcement and finish.

Quote checker FAQ

How do I know if a contractor quote is fair?

Divide the quote by the job size to get a price per unit, then compare it with the typical range for that job. A fair quote usually sits near the typical figure and lists the full scope.

Local labor rates, hard access, removal of old material, a heavier spec or a busy season can all push a quote up. Ask the contractor which of these apply.
