Editorial policy

Editorial policy

How our guides are researched, written, updated and corrected, and how we keep money away from the numbers.

Independence

Prices, rules and rankings are set by our methodology, not by advertisers or listed businesses. No company can pay to change a price range, a rule summary or its place in the organic list.

Sources

We use official sources for rules (state licensing boards, attorneys general, building departments) For costs we compare at least three published sources, such as national cost guides (HomeGuide, Angi, HomeAdvisor) and supplier list prices, and name them on the page.

Dates and updates

Every page shows when it was last checked. License and rebate rules are reviewed every three months and other facts once a year, or sooner when a law or price changes.

Corrections

When we find or are told about an error, we check it against the source, correct it and update the date on the page. Significant corrections are noted on the page.

Advice

Our guides are general information. Cost figures are estimates, not quotes, and state rule summaries are not legal advice; confirm with the official source before you sign a contract.

Sponsored content

If we ever publish content paid for by a manufacturer or supplier, it will be labeled “Sponsored” and its links marked rel=”sponsored”. See our advertiser disclosure.

How often pages are updated

ContentUpdate cycle
Price rangesRe-checked twice a year, or sooner when a supplier list changes sharply
CalculatorsRe-run when the prices behind them change, and when a bug is reported
State licence rulesChecked against the board site; updated when the board changes a rule or a link
CorrectionsOn confirmation, with the change noted on the page

Corrections process

  1. You email the page URL and the source that contradicts it.
  2. We open the source and compare it with the page.
  3. If the source is stronger than ours, we update the page and note the date.
  4. If we cannot confirm either way, we remove the unsupported claim rather than leave it up.

Automation and AI disclosure

Software tools may help draft and check pages, but every published number is compared with the sources listed above, and a person edits and approves the page before it goes live. If a number cannot be traced to a source, it is not published. Guides are not generated and published without review.

What advertisers cannot influence

Advertisers and listed businesses cannot buy a place in a price table, a calculator result, an editorial ranking or a licence summary. Paid placements are confined to the directory and are labelled. The full split is in our advertiser disclosure.

Questions

How often do you update prices?

Price ranges are re-checked twice a year, or sooner when a supplier list changes sharply. Calculators are re-run when prices change, and state licence rules are updated when the board changes a rule.

Do you use AI to write pages?

Software tools may help draft and check pages, but every published number is compared with the sources listed, and a person edits and approves the page before it is published.

How do I challenge a number on a page?

Email admin@localservicehq.com with the page URL and the source that contradicts it. If the source is stronger, the page is updated and the change is noted. If neither can be confirmed, the claim is removed.

Can advertisers change a price or a ranking?

No. Advertisers and listed businesses cannot buy a place in a price table, a calculator result, an editorial ranking or a licence summary. Paid placements are confined to the directory and labelled.
